Everyone in the whole school has been practicing signing the song " The Power Of One".  It will be the grand finale in our Kindness Counts Assembly. Sign club students will be signing songs . Student council students will be reading kindness quotes and poems.

Fit Kids will be starting up soon. I will be doing it for the 5th and 6th graders. Permission slips will go out next week.

Wow I can't believe it is already December! The Holiday season is a perfect time to teach new vocabulary words to students. It is important to repeat new vocabulary in different contexts for reinforcement.  Fun vocabulary games such as lotto, concentration games or homemade games played over and over provide repetition needed to incorporate new words into sight vocabulary. This is also a great time of year to do activities that involve step by step instructions such as holiday crafts or baking cookies.  Providing closed captioning for children as they watch special holiday videos or television shows is beneficial for their reading and vocabulary skills.  Word play and joke telling is a wonderful way to develop flexibility in using multiple meanings of words. Read the newspaper with your child and help him to interpret the holiday headlines.

Have a terrific Holiday Season,

Yours Truly, Mrs. Wheeler
